Widex Allure Review: Sierra Friend, AuD

Texas-Based HCP Sierra Friend Finds the Perfect Fit with Widex Allure

Since its introduction earlier this year, Widex Allure™ has quickly become a go-to recommendation for Sierra Friend at East Texas Ear, Nose & Throat in Longview, Texas. In just her first year of practice at her busy ENT office, Friend has fit a wide range of hearing loss profiles – many of them with Widex devices. But with Allure specifically, she’s found something that resonates across the board: a thoughtfully designed fit that paves the way for a more natural sound.

“I've been wearing hearing aids myself for 15 years, and I was genuinely surprised by how clear and lifelike the audio was,” she said. “It doesn’t feel like you're listening through a medical device; it feels like you're just hearing again.”

That clarity starts with the Allure’s unique acoustic design. According to Friend, one of the most compelling benefits is the way the hearing aid supports open dome fittings, even for patients with more complex, sloping losses.

“I try to keep patients in domes whenever I can; it preserves their low-frequency hearing and tends to be more comfortable,” she explained. “With Allure, I’ve been able to go farther with domes than I could before without running into feedback issues. It has really helped improve my offering and provide for my patients.”

The Right Kind of Feedback

One patient in particular stood out in Friend’s mind the moment she learned about Allure: an individual with a steeply sloping hearing loss. He had recently been fit with a different hearing aid model, but was struggling with minor feedback and looking for something more natural sounding. “As soon as I heard about Allure, I thought of him,” she said. “He was really particular about sound quality and wanted an open fit. Once we upgraded him, the difference was immediate.”

In addition to the clear, natural sound, her patient also appreciated the redesigned app. “He told me it was easier to navigate and felt more intuitive,” Friend added. “It gave him more control without feeling overwhelming.”

Another experienced user was so taken with the improvement that she asked to keep the demo pair. “She literally didn’t want to give them back,” Friend laughed. “She told me, ‘This is perfect. I absolutely love it.’”

That kind of feedback, from both new and experienced wearers alike, has helped confirm that Allure isn’t just an upgrade; for many patients, it’s the solution they didn’t know was possible.

Simpler Fittings and Stronger Relationships

Behind the scenes, Widex Compass™ Cloud has made fitting Allure as seamless as it sounds. Friend finds the new software easy to navigate, with a streamlined setup that gets patients close to their preferred sound profile right from the first fit. “I don’t need to make nearly as many adjustments as I used to,” she noted. “Compass Cloud gets you close right out of the gate, which gives me more time to connect with the patient on a personal level.”

And the time gained back is meaningful. Friend recalled one patient who was heading to a concert the evening of their fitting. Because the appointment didn’t require heavy tweaking, she was able to focus on that personal moment. “I got to ask about the concert, what kind of music he liked, and how he felt going into the evening,” she said. “And at the follow-up, we talked about how it went, not just the technical settings. It’s those conversations that really deepen the relationship.”

Friend is eager to continue fitting her patients with Widex Allure and give them the sound experience they’ve been looking for. “With Allure, I feel like I've really found the perfect fit for those seeking more natural sound,” she concluded.
