COUNSELING – WALKING THE JOURNEY WITH YOUR CLIENT

Living with tinnitus can be deeply unsettling for your clients, often leading to heightened levels of stress, depression, and anxiety. As a hearing care professional, you play a pivotal role in offering support throughout their journey.

The Widex Zen Therapy program incorporates two key counseling strategies:

INSTRUCTIONAL COUNSELING

Instructional (basic) counseling is centered on providing your client with key insights about tinnitus and how to manage it. Through this, your client can grasp:

  • The underlying causes of their tinnitus, particularly if it is tied to hearing loss
  • The probable progression of their tinnitus
  • The influence of the limbic system on their tinnitus perception and how their personal response affects their ability to cope or adjust to the tinnitus

ADJUSTMENT-BASED COUNSELING

Adjustment-based counseling focuses on the process of helping the person address the emotional and psychological effects of the tinnitus.

Within our Widex Zen Therapy program, we incorporate what we term Cognitive Behavioral Intervention (CBI)*. Derived from the principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, CBI adopts a sophisticated approach designed explicitly for tinnitus counseling within the hearing care professional's domain. The goal is to help clients recognize and challenge unhelpful thoughts and behaviors related to their tinnitus and replace them with more positive and constructive ones.

* Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a time-intensive psychological approach and requires expertise that hearing care professionals are typically not trained in.
