When any battery is placed inside a hearing aid, the performance of that battery is significantly affected by the technology it powers. Widex hearing technology is highly efficient, with the lowest battery drain in the industry. Lower battery drain means higher performance for your hearing aids AND rechargeable batteries.
Silver zinc batteries need consistent charging to avoid over discharging.
When a hearing aid has too high a current drain, it is more likely to drain the battery completely, especially when streaming.
When the battery is completely drained, it needs a full 6-8 hours to charge.
If not charged for the full time, the battery will start the next day only partially charged, resulting in less hours of available use.
If this practice is continued over time, it can affect the performance of the battery.
Because Widex hearing aids boast a low power consumption, BEYOND Z needs less charging time to keep the battery working optimally, even when a patient uses the BEYOND Z for as much as 16 hours a day with active streaming. The result is potentially better short-term and long-term battery performance.
In rare instances, patients can over-discharge the battery, reducing its long-term life and potentially the short-term function. To prevent this, Widex recommends avoiding opening and closing the battery door after the battery has completely discharged (the "low battery indicator" has presented).
Fortunately, because the BEYOND Z is less likely to drain its battery completely during one day's use, this is unlikely to be an issue. Be sure to counsel your patient to fully charge the batteries on a nightly basis.
To make it easier to change the BEYOND Z battery door, Widex has created a tool to help remove the battery door pin for door replacement.

Need to replace the battery door without the tool?
No problem! You can use a very thin screw driver or even a safety pin to push out the battery door pin. Widex provides spare battery door pins with each retrofit kit, just in case you need them. When replacing the battery door pin into the BEYOND Z rechargeable door, align the pin at a precise 90 degree angle while applying pressure.
A few tips:
It takes a significant amount of pressure to push the pin out of the door and then back into the door when reassembling.
It should be easier to remove the pin with the Widex side facing down; it is easier to insert the pin back in with the Widex side up.
If you are feeling resistance, consider flipping the hearing aid over and trying from the other side.
When re-inserting the door, insert the pin partially and swing open the door to make sure the pin and hole are aligned.
