Widex ZEN Therapy- 10:15 - 11:15 in Room 240-241

Widex ZEN Therapy is an integrated program for tinnitus patients that incorporates instructional content along with adjustment based counseling through amplification, fractal tones, noise and a relaxation strategy. A number of clinical studies have been carries out in the past years using this approach. Overall, the results show a significant reduction of tinnitus distress within a short period of time (time months) that persists over time. This course will discuss guidelines of WZT for use in the clinical settings.

Widex BEYOND: Sound Quality and Perceptual Characteristics of Direct-to-Hearing Aid Streaming- 11:30 - 12:30 in Room 234-235

Direct-to-hearing aid streaming is a recent and important feature addition in hearing aids. Even though the main functionality is to present sound to the user, little interest has been shown in the perceived quality of the streamed content. This presentation explores the perceptual characteristics and perceived sound quality of four premium RIC hearing aids using recognized methods from the audio industry. The results show that Widex BEYOND has best sound quality performance available in the market.

Hearing Impairment and Cognitive Energy-  3:00 - 6:00 in Room 140-142

Recently, a group of international researchers met and presented their work on the interaction between hearing, cognition and aging. The Framework for Understanding Effortful Listening (FUEL) incorporates the cognitive theory of attention and discusses how various factors including motivation affect listening effort, along with the various approaches to quantify such effort. The Academy invited some of the key contributors of the FUEL so they may share their insights on how an understanding of the FUEL may help improve clinical practice.

Measuring Listening Effort to Evaluate Hearing Aid Performance- 10:00 - 11:00 in Room 240-241

Individuals with hearing loss experience difficulty understanding speech, but also may exert effort in order to listen. Busy clinicians desire a comprehensive and time-efficient test that is easy to administer in a clinical setting. The Repeat and Recall Test (RRT) was developed to evaluate speech recognition, working memory and listening in a single, clinically relevant test. The development of the RRT, as well as data demonstrating the results obtained, will be discussed.
