DAI, CROS, BiCROS and FM Systems
Direct Audio Input (DAI) opportunities have grown over the years to include FM systems, Assistive Listening Devices (ALD's), Bluetooth interfaces, as well as direct input to various electronic devices (including, but not limited to MP3 players, televisions or computers). These devices coupled to advanced technology hearing aids allow tremendous potential for expanding the capabilities for persons with hearing loss.
All models of Widex Behind-the-Ear hearing instruments are equipped with direct audio input (DAI) capability. This allows for coupling of our hearing aids to a variety of FM systems and assistive listening devices (ALDs). The advent of Widex’s Integrated Signal Processing (ISP) allows greater flexibility for DAI capabilities and provides an opportunity for more successful hearing aid fittings.
When coupling a hearing aid to any type of ALD, one must be aware of the correct connection for that hearing aid (DAI boot/shoe).
In addition, when fitting your patients with ALD’s, it is important to understand how these devices work in conjunction with the advanced processing of the hearing aids (e.g. directional microphones, noise reduction algorithm).
Now, it is more important than ever to utilize the correct method of fitting hearing aids, understand the action of the hearing aids with the ALD, as well apply the as the proper verification of the ALD with the hearing aid.
This section will explore the correct procedures in achieving appropriate fitting of Widex aids with ALD’s, provide information on the effect that ALD’s have on the advanced processing in Widex’s hearing aids and guidance in providing accurate measures for verification with FM systems.
